Hooked Cross

Description

This is burnt wood, it's the bottom of a display case I'm working on for my living room.

It's been called a number of things - Hakenkreuz, Sonnenkreuz, Sonnenrad - Hook Cross, Sun Cross, Sun Wheel. No, not here Swastika - I'm fairly certain, although I could be wrong, that Swastikas are angular. In Maine, my cluster stocks Church books with Greek Crosses, the cores being Swastikas, in Liturgical Worship. So that's an example of a Swastika as opposed to a Hook Cross.

The rounded Hooked Cross has been seen on Viking Rune Stones and the like. It's been other places, too. I think it qualifies as one of those Universal Subconscious symbols. Like the Triquetra and the Number Three - all have been used someone universally, in different forms, interculturally, intercontinentally. The Hook Cross and Sun Cross seem to be the *most* common of them, however.

Here's a link: [link]. I normally wouldn't use Wikipedia, but I'm really too lazy to write all the info myself, this morning.

Sun Cross is correct for this one, since it's a blend of the Hook Cross and the Sunwheel. This is also called a "broken sunwheel". These "rounded" ones were most common during the Viking age and were mostly painted on Viking shields. The Hook Cross is one of thundergod's holy signs.
It's also supposed to be in the other direction, but this is nice anyway. :)
