One of the most fascinating characters in the Bible, to me, is the person of Hochmah, or Hagia Sophia if you prefer; Holy Wisdom. Wisdom, in Scripture, is personified as a woman. The NAB rather clumsily translates this fact as 'Woman Wisdom.' I realise, of course, that Yahweh does *not* have a beard, or a robe. But it would have been difficult for me to attempt to convey my imagination of the naissance of Wisdom without the presence of God, lest the thought lose all meaning... if that makes any sense. I get that, for the orthodox minded Catholic or other, this might seem like a new-agey sort of image. But take care to read the Books of the Wisdom of Solomon and Sirach in light of the Proverbs of Solomon and the other places in the Old Testament where Hagia Sophia is mentioned.
